SIGNER

SIGNING

In her documentary film, SIGNING, Nurith Aviv ventures into the relatively uncharted territory of sign languages. These languages are numerous and diverse, each with its own grammar and syntax, its unique richness and complexity.
Three generations of protagonists, both deaf and hearing, as well as researchers from The Sign Language Research Laboratory at the The University of Haifa, talk about the sign languages that have evolved in Israel within the past 100 years. In this new work, Nurith Aviv continues to explore issues close to her heart: a mother tongue, translation, and intergenerational transmission.
In doing so, she invites us to broaden our perception of human languages.
