Sept jeunes d’aujourd’hui racontent leur passion pour la poésie yiddish écrite par des auteurs qui avaient à peu près leur âge dans l’entre-deux guerres. C’était un moment d’un formidable élan créatif de la culture yiddish.
La poésie de ces années était universelle et intimiste à la fois, en relation avec tous les courants littéraires et artistiques de l’époque. Ils étaient polyglottes et se déplaçaient d’un pays à l’autre.
Le “Yiddishland” n’était pas un pays, mais une langue.
Les protagonistes du film, certains Juifs, d’autres non, se déplacent eux aussi entre les pays et les langues.
Chacun parle de sa relation personnelle au yiddish et à un poète qu’il aime particulièrement. Pour ces jeunes, cette poésie yiddish n’appartient pas uniquement à un passé juif, mais elle permet de se situer face au présent.
Seven young people share their love for Yiddish avant-garde poetry written during the interwar period - a period which saw a huge outbreak of Yiddish culture and creativity.
The poetry written was both personal and universal, closely aligned with the art movements of the time. The seven participants in the film, some of them jewish and some not, move and live between different countries and languages.
Each tells of their connection to Yiddish and to a poet or poetess close to their heart. For them, this poetry does not only belong to the jewish past but speaks to the present
שבעה אנשים צעירים מספרים על אהבתם לשירה שנכתבה ביידיש בין שתי מלחמות העולם. תקופה זו התאפיינה בהתפרצות יצירתית עצומה של תרבות היידיש. השירה שנכתבה היתה אישית ואוניברסלית כאחד והיא עמדה בקשר הדוק עם כל הזרמים בספרות והאמנות של התקופה.
שבעת המשתתפים בסרט, חלקם יהודים וחלקם לא, נעים וחיים בין ארצות ושפות שונות. כל אחד מהם מספר על הקשר שלו ליידיש ואל משורר או משוררת היקרים ללבו. עבור הצעירים שירה זו אינה שייכת רק לעבר היהודי, היא אקטואלית ומדברת אליהם היום
